Channapatna Toys

 MAYA (www.mayaindia.org) conducted a comprehensive study of artisans and various stakeholders in the lacware handicrafts sector in and around Channapatna, Ramanagara District, Karnataka.

 502 artisans were interviewed. Almost all artisans work in and around the Channapatna Municipal Council limits. The 15 localities they hail from are listed below. The Maya artisan survey covered all these areas exhaustively.

 Considering that by various estimates there are about 750 artisans in the lacware craft today the sample 502 individuals chosen more than adequately represents the entire artisan population.
